Crackle Creme on Union Street is a cozy café that carves out a sweet niche in Vancouver’s dessert scene, specializing in crème brûlée with a twist. This spot combines the familiarity of a local coffee shop with the playful charm of a dessert boutique, making it a low-key destination for those who appreciate nuanced sweets alongside quality coffee and tea.

The space itself is modest but inviting, with a few outdoor seats where local dog owners and passersby gather, especially on warmer days. It feels very much like a neighborhood nook where you might drop by for a casual catch-up or a quiet moment with an espresso or lavender tea latte in hand. The owner’s personal touch shapes the experience, keeping things clean and welcoming, with small details like avocado plants and mini figurines adding character indoors.

Crackle Creme’s standout feature is its crème brûlée, offered in a range of flavors that veer away from the usual. You’ll find unusual choices such as durian, pandan coconut, Vietnamese coffee, and honey lavender—each providing a distinct taste experience. These are not heavy desserts but rather creamy, light, and carefully crafted to reflect their inspirations, such as the apple pie brûlée capturing the flavor without the crust texture. For adventurous eaters or those looking for something beyond a regular sweet snack, this is the place to linger and explore different flavor profiles.

The café also serves a small but thoughtful drink menu, including iced Vietnamese coffee, matcha latte, and fragrant herbal options like rosemary water and lavender tea latte. These beverages complement the desserts well and invite visitors to slow down and enjoy.

Because parking on Union Street can be limited, it’s easiest to come by foot, bike, or with the expectation of nearby alley parking. The best time to visit tends to be in the afternoon or early evening when the light softens and the small crowd of locals creates a relaxed yet lively vibe. Families might come by for the kid-friendly macarons, while more seasoned palates will appreciate the mature flavors like the honey lavender brûlée. The alfajor and croffle provide some quick bites for casual snacking.

Overall, Crackle Creme suits anyone who enjoys a dessert-centric stop paired with high-quality coffee or tea in a casual, unpretentious setting. It’s a place for those moments when you want a sweet treat that sparks curiosity and a calm corner of the neighborhood to retreat into for a little while.

We ordered three crème brûlées here, which were very interesting. It was my first time to eat it, but my friends had tried it. It had an interesting atmosphere and our order was prepared quickly. Just remember that there is usually no parking space on the main street and it is better to park your car in the surrounding alleys

Stopped by Crackle Crème on Union St for a dessert fix and it didn’t disappoint! The apple pie crème brûlée was spot on because it really captured that apple pie flavor, even the crust, without the crust texture (pretty cool, actually). The honey lavender was smooth and fragrant, though definitely a more mature flavor so the kids gave it a thumbs down. The alfajor was delicious but I wish it had that chocolate dip like they do in Argentina. The macarons were cute, just okay flavor-wise. I wished I had time to try some drinks but a charming little spot with creative twists on classic sweets.

I heard about this shop on social media and decided to come in. It's a small shop and out front it has a few seats for patrons. I love it cause in the summer the dogs can hang out front. Daniel, the shop keeper, keeps it clean out front too. I saw him spraying down the side walk with hot water. Upon entering it's a cozy setup. Daniel is definitely a cartoon/car guy. He noticed my dogs inside my car as well, a dog lover. He's got a cute setup going on with his waffles and macarons up front, casual cafe menu, and a little fridge with cold drinks to grab and go. I brought a friend back and she ordered the waffle, oh man it was good! That waffle was better then cafe medinas, seriously. It's moist. Cafe medinas waffles are overhyped and a bit dry. I got the half dozen macarons and the characters are pretty cute lol. His concept definitely sells for originality. Classical culinary cooking modified to his own. Each character has its own flavor, for example, the keeropi frog is pistachio. The packaging is a clean and neat slide box, with a see through screen on top for viewing, very very cool. Price after taxes is 18 bucks for a half dozen, reasonable for the amount of work involved for a one man team. These make an amazing gift for someone.

Cute Ghibli themed dessert spot with lots of flavour choices for the crème brûlée. We tried the dulce de leche and the pandan coconut. Both were delicious and creamy. I also had a london fog to drink and my daughter had a fancy flavoured sparking soda. We enjoyed looking at all the macaron designs, and the little forest of avacado plants and miniature characters.

Wow! What an explosion of flavours. If you're craving sweet things, that's the spot for you. I finally found a place that makes a good Basque cheesecake. We also tried their icecream (Vietnamese coffee and chocolate) and it was super yummy. We'll definitely be back.

I was introduced to this dessert cafe by a friend. They specialize in two things: character macarons and creme brulee, and also coffee and tea beverages. The creme brulee comes in an assortment of unique flavours. They have both regular and vegan creme brulee, and the vegan flavours are just as interesting and varied as the regular flavours. I got there a little early, so while waiting for my friend to arrive I had a Thai jasmine iced tea. This was really good - the rich creaminess and sweetness of Thai tea with a strong and fragrant jasmine green tea instead of the usual red. Once my friend got there, we ordered creme brulee. I got the vegan durian and she got the lychee yogurt flavour. We sampled each others' creme brulees and both were delicious! The lychee yogurt creme brulee tasted just like lychee yogurt bubble tea and even had coconut jelly pieces inside. I didn't notice a big difference in consistency between the vegan and non-vegan creme brulee. Really friendly staff. The shop is a little small, and unfortunately does not have a customer washroom, but there are some stools along a counter inside (with hooks underneath for bags and coats) and a few seats outside. This stretch of Union Street is one of the quieter commercial streets in Strathcona/Chinatown, and I would happily sit outside here on a nice day.

It's a great little coffee shop that I hung out in while waiting for a table at the nearby Phnom Penh. They make a great rooibos latte! There's only stools against a counter on the wall but it was nice enough. I will go again for that drink. It was tasty.
